Excursion List for Scandinavian Expedition

Below are the daily optional excursions and pricing during our voyage.  To reserve these, go to your Registration Page and make your selection (Add-on).  It is suggested you make selections in advance in case the tour you desire sells out.

Day 1 – Arrival Day

Arrive to Bergen, Norway. You can drop off your luggage at 3pm, the ship opens at 4pm, and the ship sets sail at 8:30pm.

If you have selected the pre-tour to Copenhagen, a sightseeing tour of Bergen is included.


Day 2

Day 2, July 31 – Geiranger and Trollstigen

Discover the beauty of the Geirangerfjord (UNESCO World Heritage). Beginning in Geiranger, the tour takes you by bus through breathtaking landscapes and along remarkable stretches of road. We’ll stop for photos at various viewpoints and traverse two fjords by ferry. The itinerary includes a coffee break at the Trollstigen café, culminating with dinner and dessert at the Eggen Restaurant, perched at the summit accessed by the Romsdalsgondola.
Level 1 – Suitable for everyone. Excursions at this level are undemanding, and you are often transported in vehicles.

Day 3

Day 3, Aug.1 – City Cycling in Trondheim

Cycling in Trondheim, you reap the benefits of Trondheim’s efforts to become one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in Norway. The city’s streets have five kilometres of red bicycle lanes, and on the excursion from the Havila Voyages ship along the quay you will also get to test the city’s new bicycle bridge. The guides meet you at the quay, and helmets and bicycles will be adapted for you. The guides will accompany you on the trip and back to the quay. Coffee and baked goods are served during the trip.
Level 3 – Average physical condition. Uneven and steep terrain may occur, and it may be necessary to bring equipment and similar items that you have to carry yourself. This excursion is not suitable for people with limited mobility. A certain level of mobility and ability to react are also required.

Day 3, Aug.1 – Trondheim and the Nidaros Cathedral

Trondheim with its small-town charm and colourful, old wooden houses from the 17th century, is also home to modern sports facilities, educational and research institutions and a lively nightlife. The guides will meet you at the quay. Bus through the city centre into Nidaros Cathedral and then bus back to the quay. The visit in the church lasts for about 40 minutes, included a 20-minute-long guided tour.

Day 3, Aug.1 – Sail through the heart and history of Trondheim

Sail through the heart of Trondheim on picturesque historical waterways with local guides in traditional clinker-built (UNESCO) boats, and learn about the merchants’ lives from olden days. The guides will meet you at the quay and lead you on a ca. 10-minute walk to the pier where the boat is waiting. All guests will be provided with warm blankets and ponchos. Dress warmly in layers, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a wind- and waterproof jacket.

Day 3, Aug.1 – Vintage Tram Ride in Trondheim

Get on the world’s northernmost tram, and travel 8.8 km on narrow tracks from the centre of Trondheim out into the suburbs and then take the bus for the last stretch to Lian. Departure from the quay with bus through the centre of Trondheim to the tram station. Several photo stops along the way.

Day 3, Aug.1 – Historical city walk in Trondheim

You can experience the highlights of Trondheim in just a few hours in the morning. A five-kilometre walk takes you through 1,000 years of history from a medieval city and pilgrimage destination to a technological capital. The excursion is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility problems. The visit to Nidaros Cathedral lasts for 30–45 minutes.

Day 4

Day 4, Aug.2 – Feast with the Viking chieftain

Join us on a visit to the home of the Viking chieftain in an 83-metre long house, and banquet in true Viking style. ​​​​Guests can walk freely around the exhibition.During the bus ride from Stamsund to Borg and the Lofotr Viking Museum, you will be introduced to the Viking Age and learn more about the museum and how the Vikings lived so that you are prepared for an evening with the Vikings.  At the Lofotr Museum, you can go into the largest house found from the Viking Age. Here at Borg, they have built a full scale reconstruction of the house, 83 metres long and 9 metres high. You will be welcomed to the Viking banquet in the great hall of the Viking chieftain. Finds from the Viking Age are on exhibition in the house, and it is decorated for a feast. You will meet Vikings in traditional costumes, there is singing and dancing and you will be served in true Viking style. For dinner, there will be lamb, vegetables, barley groats, cranberries, Viking bread, sour cream and butter. Mead, a Viking drink will be served with the food.

Day 4, Aug.2 – Meet and greet in Lofoten

This popular excursion takes you through Lofoten’s beautiful scenery, where you can meet the locals in the fishing villages and settlements. Departing Stamsund by bus. Optional visit to “Galleri Espolin” or the Lofoten Museum. We arrive in Svolvær where you board the Havila Voyages ship once more.

Day 4, Aug.2 – Arctic coastal walk – Experience the arctic outdoor

Living close to the nature and the changing seasons is a part of life in the north.  Come along with us on a walk on white beaches and experience the arctic outdoor. This hike is approximately three kilometres long. Hiking poles are available and all guests will be provided with spikes during winter season. Dress warm in layers, wear sturdy shoes and a wind- and waterproof jacket. Short, guided coach transfer from your ship and back.

Day 4, Aug.2 – Experience Bodø and Saltstraumen

Bodø is the next largest town you visit in the Arctic landscape. Be sure to visit here and also the world’s strongest tidal current, Saltstraumen.  Bus tour with audio guide. Wear comfortable shoes and warm, windproof clothing. Rental of crampons and poles.

Day 4, Aug.2 – RIB-safari to Saltstraumen and the sea-eagles

Go on a boat trip to Saltstraumen, one of the world’s strongest maelstrom, and see the famous vortexes up close. Departure from the quay, and you will be provided with a flotation suit, life jacket and goggles. Hats and gloves are available as well, or bring your own. Dress in layers and wear solid shoes, you might get wet! Remember to bring your camera or binoculars.

Day 4, Aug.2 – Coastal Road and Gildeskål Church

Witness a beautiful landscape and visit the authentic farmstead at Gildeskål church site with it’s medieval church from 1130 with a well-preserved Baroque interior. The tour goes by bus from Ørnes along the beautiful Coastal Route through a landscape of dramatic mountains, islands, small fjords and the open sea.

Day 4, Aug.2 – Electric Bike Adventure through Bodø

Join us on an electric bike ride that not only explores the breathtaking northern nature, but also offers a unique way to experience the vibrant heart of Bodø. Your cycling adventure begins at the wharf where your guide will meet you. Dress for the weather and the bike, and wear sturdy, comfortable shoes for biking. You’ll need basic fitness and balance for this ride, which includes traffic, gravel, and trails. Make sure you’re comfortable cycling in these conditions for a safe and enjoyable trip.
Level 3 – Average physical condition. Uneven and steep terrain may occur, and it may be necessary to bring equipment and similar items that you have to carry yourself. This excursion is not suitable for people with limited mobility. A certain level of mobility and ability to react are also required.

Day 5

Day 5, Aug.3 – Tromsø the Arctic Capital

Tromsø, often referred to as the “Paris of the North”, is a lively city with fierce nature in its backyard and a dramatic polar history. Join us on a tour through the city and up onto its very roof. Join a guided bus tour, preferably via an electric bus, in Tromsø through the city center to “Full Steam – The Gateway to the Arctic,” a historic building rich in history. Your adventure continues with a gondola ride up the mountain. Please wear appropriate footwear and warm clothing for the breathtaking viewpoint at the top of the mountain lift.

Day 5, Aug.3 – Explore Tromsø by e-bike

Join e-bike tour this summer and see Tromso as the locals do. On our bike tour, we show you our favourite sites and city features on our extremely popular and easy-to-ride electric bicycles.

Day 6

Day 6, Aug.4 – Visit a Sami family

Come along on a visit to the Sami people at the Davvi Siida camp on the Nordkyn Peninsula and learn about the indigenous people of the North. This excursion provides a unique opportunity to learn about the Sami people’s rich culture, history, and their way of life with reindeer herding. Comfortable clothing is recommended for this experience. The journey to the camp will be by bus, departing from the harbour.

Day 6, Aug.4 – Hot & Cold on Top of the World

Release your endorphins in the world’s northernmost fishing village! Warm up inside a brand-new Arctic sauna before taking a refreshing dip into the cold waters of the Barents Sea. You descend safely into the water, using a staircase from the dock. Lifebuoys and supervising staff will ensure a safe experience. There are separate changing rooms, showers, and restrooms for both men and women. A bathrobe, towel, and slippers are included in the price, but you are required to bring your own swimwear. You will also be served waffles and a hot drink during your visit to the Julehuset (The Christmas House).

Day 6, Aug.4 – Birdwatching in the Arctic

Get up close to puffins, gannets, sea eagles and the bustling birdlife of Norway’s largest seabird colony. A ten-minute boat trip to the bird cliff by passenger boat. You will be given warm clothing and equipment for your trip.

Day 6, Aug.4 – ATV Summer Safari

Join a fast-paced and fun excursion through the Arctic landscape on Magerøya, a peninsula that juts out into the Arctic Ocean. Wear comfortable shoes, and warm, windproof clothing. You will be provided with appropriate equipment such as a helmet, gloves, a snowmobile suit and boots. You  can choose whether you want to drive yourself or be a passenger. ( 2 persons on each Quad )

Day 6, Aug.4 – North Cape plateau

At the ends of the Earth. The North Cape plateau rises a steep 307 metres straight up from the Arctic Ocean. You are standing on the European Continent’s most northerly point, looking out across a horizon so long that you see the Earth curve. Wear comfortable shoes, and warm, windproof clothing.

Day 7

Aug.5 – Kirkenes, Norway

There is no sightseeing in Kirkenes today. We will have a morning flight to Oslo. You have the option of traveling home, staying in Oslo for the post-tour, or continuing elsewhere.
