Day 1
Alton, IL, is nestled along the Mississippi River and is one of America’s great river towns. It is filled with historic homes, great shops and diverse industry. Abundant with historical figures and local legends, many threads of our nation’s history can be discovered here.
Day 2
From Abraham Lincoln’s only duel to a man-eating bird, there are many fascinating points of interest! You will tour a lock and dam along the Mississippi, learning how vital these are to the survival of the community.
Tour the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site – where Lewis and Clark began their journey!
Visit the Audubon Center at Riverlands that connects people to the beauty and significance of the Mississippi and the Great Rivers confluence and the river’s rich diversity of birds and wildlife.
Day 3
Voted the #1 scenic spot in Illinois, Elsah is nestled between the limestone bluffs alongside the Great River Road, on the bank of the majestic Mississippi River. You’ll visit the historic village, and a wonderful general store.
Enjoy the views from above the River at the stunning Principia College.
The Aerie’s Skylift not only provides a unique way to reach Aerie’s Hill, but also showcases the breathtaking views of the unique Grafton bluffs, and the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. (You can choose a gondola, or chairlift ride).
And once you are up to Aerie’s Resort and Winery, a wine tasting awaits.
Day 4
The king of river towns, St. Louis has exciting history, attractions and a bustling energy.
You’ll spend time at Gateway Arch. Enjoy the movie in Tucker Theater, a ride up to the top of the Arch, and then time in the excellent museum.
After, since you will have seen the river from both sides, it is time to get out ON the river. Enjoy a 1-hour scenic paddlewheel sightseeing trip on the Mississippi River.
What else is St Louis famous for? Budweiser! Enjoy a very interesting tour of Budweiser and see the Clydesdale Horses.
Ther are several ethnic neighborhoods in St. Louis, and tonight you’ll explore The Hill – the Italian neighborhood wher you’ll have dinner.
Day 5
After breakfast at your hotel, checkout and depart for home.
